Ugh.
Have I ever mentioned how much I don't like to camp?
Well. I don't.
And living in a 56 degree house without power is awfully close to camping.
The only radio we have is a crank start. The only stations it picks up are one that plays Kathie Lee Gifford 24/7 and another that has the saddest country songs known to man.
We went with the saddest country songs known to man.
But they've put me in a funk.
The dogs are fretting and pacing.
The cats are sleeping all day and terrorizing us at night.
The Princess is feeling better. And boredom has DEFINITELY set in...
The King cut some firewood out of the trees in our yard.
I am worrying that our chimney is going to burn down.
The power company is saying it might be a week.
A WEEK.
I need paper plates and cups.
And more donuts. The King apparently scarfed them in the night.
Here are a few pictures.
I don't care if you don't want to see them.
Look anyway.
I'm cold.
This is my very favorite pink dogwood tree. That nasty old pine tree fell on her and split her right down the middle.
Looking out our back window...
Between those two evergreens used to be about 3 or 4 very tall trees. Until today, you couldn't have looked through that space. And who knew we had that one tree that looks like it belongs in Whoville?
Never knew that cell tower was behind our house. Seriously. We never knew.
This picture is looking from our garage down the driveway toward the street.
Front yard damage.
Another yard shot.
This is a beautiful Japanese maple right in front our our house.
We have a circle drive, and this is the other side of the driveway.
If nobody else looked at the photos, at least maybe my mom will see them and feel guilty while she basks in the Florida sun.
Also, I hope that any of you that have been affected by this storm are safe and warm.
I'll be back tomorrow unless I freeze or run away.
Oh Queenie!
This is what Tulsa looked like a year ago...
I guess it would be mean to say they told us a week for power too. And then it was 11 days... Okay, I won't say it. Pretend I didn't say it m'kay?
If the roads are clear, you have a warm, cozy place to come to right over the border...anytime!

We lived through the same type of storm in December. 5 days with no power. Even the grocery stores had no power. It was very freaky..like the end of the world. We couldn't even get gas. I feel for you!

If you can get out of your driveway, head west and south. They had forecast the same weather for us here in Central Texas but we only received a light icing that melted yesterday morning. I am so sorry for the mess! Once when we lived in central Virginia, we received a snow storm that knocked out our power for more than a week. We had a 6 month old baby at the time and NO fireplace. And, shortly before the storm I had stocked the freezer with meat. So, we dragged the gas grill out of storage and ate very well. Cold but well-fed! Ha!
Hope "they" are wrong and you get power back ASAP.
Blessings!

Queen, I am sorry to see your disaster. I'm learning little by little about the town where our little cabin is. I hear it is worse, if that is possible. On a positive note, I have been checking reports online, and power is slowly being restored and temperatures are rising. You will have a cold night or two over the weekend, but nothing like the single digits you've survived so far. Fingers crossed and candles lit for sustained warmer days.

Wow! I'd say keep looking on the bright side but it looks like there's a new view from every angle. Stay safe! I'll pray that you get things restored very soon!

Oh my word! I'm so very tired of winter in northern Indiana, and have been complaining about the fact that I've worn my boots for like, six weeks straight now. HOWEVER, I am now thanking the Lord that we at least have SNOW instead of all the horrible ice you have. I'm also thanking Him for heat, electricity, etc.
I hope you get your electricity back on soon; I hope you don't lose any more trees; I hope you don't run out of Diet Mountain Dew; and, I hope you get thawed out ASAP!!

Do you still doubt that this is THE Ice Storm of 2009? I certainly hope that there isn't ANOTHER "THE ice storm"

I am so sorry. I'm so thankful you found a generator.

Wow. that looks a lot like my front yard. They are telling us 7-10 days. I am so very thankful for Fairfield Inn.
Our fireplace is un-usable and all the trees that fell (but one) are pine and not great for long term heat production.
Stay warm and caffinated
