Ugh.
Have I ever mentioned how much I don't like to camp?
Well. I don't.
And living in a 56 degree house without power is awfully close to camping.
The only radio we have is a crank start. The only stations it picks up are one that plays Kathie Lee Gifford 24/7 and another that has the saddest country songs known to man.
We went with the saddest country songs known to man.
But they've put me in a funk.
The dogs are fretting and pacing.
The cats are sleeping all day and terrorizing us at night.
The Princess is feeling better. And boredom has DEFINITELY set in...
The King cut some firewood out of the trees in our yard.
I am worrying that our chimney is going to burn down.
The power company is saying it might be a week.
A WEEK.
I need paper plates and cups.
And more donuts. The King apparently scarfed them in the night.
Here are a few pictures.
I don't care if you don't want to see them.
Look anyway.
I'm cold.
This is my very favorite pink dogwood tree. That nasty old pine tree fell on her and split her right down the middle.
Looking out our back window...
Between those two evergreens used to be about 3 or 4 very tall trees. Until today, you couldn't have looked through that space. And who knew we had that one tree that looks like it belongs in Whoville?
Never knew that cell tower was behind our house. Seriously. We never knew.
This picture is looking from our garage down the driveway toward the street.
Front yard damage.
Another yard shot.
This is a beautiful Japanese maple right in front our our house.
We have a circle drive, and this is the other side of the driveway.
If nobody else looked at the photos, at least maybe my mom will see them and feel guilty while she basks in the Florida sun.
Also, I hope that any of you that have been affected by this storm are safe and warm.
I'll be back tomorrow unless I freeze or run away.
Oh my gosh!! Stay safe!! One of my friends in Fayetteville had a tree land on her roof, right over the master bedroom!!

*gasp* Brrrrrrrr.....
I can hear your teeth clacking all the way down here. If I had an address I would send in the Sam's box of powdery donuts and Diet Mountain Dew.
Here's to praying the power company is wrong and that sunny skies and warmer temperatures are headed your way. STAT! (cause that's what we nurses say)
Blessings, Queen!

I think running away sounds like a good option right now!!!! Be sure to take your family with you. Except maybe the King, since he ate the donuts.....

Oh my gosh! OH MY GOSH! That is crazy. I just prayed for you to feel warmer. I am very interested in the radio station that has Kathy Lee Gifford songs 24/7. How many songs does she have? Hmmmm. I met her once. I was friends with her nephew in college and he came to his wedding. It was very exciting.
Is there Diet Mountain Dew to drink? Thank goodness you can use your computer!

Yikes. I would say that ice storms are the worst, but you already know that. Let's just hope the power company is being overly generous with their estimate! :) Hang in there. Glad that the Princess is feeling better.

Dee from Tennessee
We just missed the storm; thankfully, we got rain. I kept watching the radar like I could do anything about it. Kentucky got hit hard too. So sorry for all this.
And I had wondered about you last night when I watched the forecast. You're the only people I "know" that live in Arkansas.
As a sidenote: I saw the weather channel interview someone this morning and they had had a huge tree limb crash through their bay window at five in the morning. Note to self: have hubby go buy a roll of plastic to include with an emergency kit (which doesn't even exist yet) in case one needs to block out the fierce winds. Gentlemen on tv said the wind and cold air coming in the house (with no electricity of course) was pretty bad, pretty bad.
Hang in there. Thankful y'all are safe.

Oh honey, I am so sorry. But on the the bright side, Guatemala is not quite so scary anymore. God works in mysterious ways. He always knows and takes care of us through anything.

Bless your heart! Those pictures caused me to hope you have plenty of M&M's and lots of ice cream in the freezer. Donuts too!

oh my gosh... you poor thing.. It makes me so cold just looking at your photos..
We lost power for 6 days last year I thought it was kinda cool for a couple of days.. I told my husband.. ok.. enough lets get some heat in here.. lol
Posted by: Joy Gross | January 28, 2009 at 05:17 PM
Wow. We got the snow and then it rained but nothing like what your photos show. We have just slush now. Your mom should invite you down, that would be the right thing!! LOL

Oh no!! You can come stay with us! :) We lost power for a night but it came back on this morning around 8:30. We lost one tree but we only have 2 and they were not nearly as mature as yours. I'm so sorry you still don't have power!
Posted by: Shannon | January 28, 2009 at 06:10 PM
You can't run away! (You'd slip and fall amid all that ice.) I'm so, so sorry that y'all are so cold and miserable. I would typically make some really obnoxious comment right about now, but that seems mean, plus you are probably too cold to enjoy it. So, instead, hugs!

ooo stay warm! I hope you guys get power soon!

Oh dear. Somehow I haven't been keeping updated with you--you haven't been showing up in my reader. But that's all fixed now.
Saying a prayer for you!

Yikes! Hope you get warm soon.

I'm so sad for your dogwood tree! =0( Dang nasty ugly pine tree!!
I hope everything thaws out quickly for you because my toes start to get frostbite just thinking about having to clean all that up while it's still freezing.
Another freaking week??!!! They've got to be kidding!! I'm soo sorry! I'm feeling very guilty over our spring temps... =0|
Posted by: Runningamuck | January 28, 2009 at 08:57 PM
your damage and length of power outage is very much reminiscent of our hurricane ike damage and power outage. except our temps were in the 80s. and it was humid. i really think i'd take your 56 degree house temp over ours that week. :) but, i do feel your pain!

We are in NWA as well but have been incredibly lucky ... I am thinking of you and the others affected by this crazy storm.
Posted by: Jenna | January 28, 2009 at 09:42 PM
B...I can't even begin to imagine what you guys are going through. Wish we were there to provide company (and I've got enough extra poundage on this body to help keep several people warm). I know that it's the pits...but thank goodness you all are together and the Princess is getting better. You know you've always got a place here if you need it. Keep us posted!

HOLY COW! I can't believe those pictures! You weren't exaggerating! OH MY GOSH! I'm sooooooo sorry you're living with all of that! I'm praying for power and SANITY!
Warm smiles,
Jen

That is so much worse than I imagined.
I hope you are staying warm tonight, and that the next few days are bearable.
What about a house party at The QM's?

Stay safe, Friend! And I'm sending many WARM wishes your way!
(Srsly warm. It's 80 here. Sorry. I'll gladly trade places with you.)

GIRLFRIEND!
I know by the time you read this, it will be too late, but GET THEE TO MINNESOTA, where we encounter all kinds of winter storms but NEVER LOSE POWER.
I can't imagine living without electricity for a week. I know our forefathers used to do it, and I'm sure I could if I had to. But I don't want to have to.

I am so sorry for the loss of your limbs...the dogwood ones.
Snuggle close and stay warm! I will be praying for your power! Thankfully, we missed it down here.
