This weekend has the makings of being pretty great. But I hesitate to get too hopeful...you know, the best laid plans and all. I am getting excited, though.
Before I tell you why I am cautiously really worked up, let me first give props to The King.

What a fabulous Valentine's Day gift! Hello? Butterfinger! I will chase them with my favorite Zone bars to make them a little healthier. Then I can freshen my chocolate breath with my favorite Orbit Bubblemint gum. I can make my daily list on my favorite index cards and that list can tell me to go to Sonic Happy Hour with my new Sonic card! Happy Day!!
Now, all that would make for a pretty terrific weekend. But. The REAL reason I'm, ahem, geared up?
THE DAYTONA 500!!!
Woo Hoo!
For those of you that don't get it, I'll see you back on Monday.
For those of you that get it--are you SO excited? I am about to bust.
I'm already really into it. My driver is starting 3rd and is 2 for 2 at Speedweeks!! (Seriously, if you are not a fan, you are not going to understand or like this post. See you Monday. Or tomorrow for a new recipe. Unless I am too excited and forget to post one. )
My dad bought me a Fantasy Racing team and I am obsessing over it. I may have to post my choices later this weekend to get your thoughts (the 2 of you who are still reading).
I may have already lost my readers.
If anyone is left, leave me a comment and tell me who your favorite driver(s) is(are) because I'm silly and think it will be fun to know who you are cheering for.
Or if you finished reading out of pity, you can leave me a comment, too. (Hello, mother.)
Woo Hoo! It is Daytona!!!
*disclaimer: though i am a serious nascar fan, i do not: a) have a mullet; b) drink beer; c) have a child named after a racecar driver or his sponsor. in case you were wondering.
You may not have a mullet, but did you watch his sister on QVC tonight, pedaling all the latest 88 gear?
Okay, so I did. But I didn't buy anything. Although I kind of wanted to.
I was so happy to flip to my speed channel today and see that he won and was 3rd on the pole! I had a really good feeling after the win last weekend, so I think that Sunday will be a fun race to watch!
(And I may post this comment anonymously because I can't believe I'm writing this in public!)
My other semi-fav drivers would be Waltrip, Casey Kahne, and all the cute ones...Sadler, Mears, Newman, and Kenseth.
Okay...I'm gonna go now and get a life.

I'm not a fan but I live in SC which is like major race country so I understand even if I don't 'get it.' Have fun!

I watched the race, well part of it, last night. I still don't understand why those 5 guys had to go to the back of the line at the start! Hubby doesn't explain it well...something about engines and not supposed to replace them I think. Oh well. It will be interesting to see how much I learn this season.

I'm a big Junior fan too, but my favorite is Tony Stewart. I just became interested in Nascar a year or so ago. My sister-in-law got me hooked. I too DO NOT have a mullet, drink beer, or have children named Ricky Bobby. HeHe.

Jeff Gordon has been my favorite for years. And somehow I'm able to cheer for Jr. as well. I think this year will be interesting with them on the same team.

I am very excited about the race season. I have withdrawal from Nov.- Feb. Never know what to do with my time on the weekends without a race to watch or Tivo.
Tony is my driver # 20 fan forever.

Thanks to you I am a Junior fan also (have you seen the latest addition of Sports Illustrated-I do think the color green fits him well). You know Husband likes to root for all the "bad" guys of racing, but he just doesn't understand. Go Nascar!

I'll be happy to follow you through race season if you promise to endure football season with me. It's only been 2 weeks and I'm starting to go through withdraw. Come July it reaches a feverish pitch.
I am partial to the 'older' drivers, though. Maturity is so sexy! ;-)

Chocolate. Sonic.
Blah, blah, blah.

::: waving :::
I'm not a NASCAR fan, per se, but I don't DISLIKE it either.
Now, I KNOW Indy racing is DIFFERENT from NASCAR. However, the only "left turns only" event I've ever been to is the Indy 500. I went in 1994 on a college field trip. Really.
I enjoyed that event quite a lot. My favorite part? Watching all the people. My favorite person was a guy who, while watching from the infield on the straightaway, said, "Dude. Those cars are goin' so fast. They are going so [expletive]in' fast." I was glad to have a Responsible Male Person nearby to protect me -- "Dude Guy" was rather drunk -- but it is one of the things I best remember about the trip.
Enjoy the race!

I'm a Gordon girl myself...have been since '94 or so. My 7 year old son is a Jr. fan though! And, I have to tell you this. My brother's 3 year old daughter's name is.....Erin Daytona!! True redneck. :)

I'm dissapointed in the no mullet thing, it would look so good with your crown.

LOL! Thanks for the heads up that the race is this weekend- I know my mother will be glued to it-
Not that I don't like it, it just doesn't hold my attention for very long-
I'll just go get my hair done, go shopping, and then stop by Sonic for a big Diet coke while it's goin on!
Good luck and y'all enjoy!

My husband watches some of the NASCAR races on Sunday afternoons...I used to watch, but now I take naps instead. : ) I/we don't really have a favorite driver. Matt Kenseth would be one that we like. I also like D.W. when he is "announcing" (whatever the word is) the race.

Areyoukiddingme?!?! My household has totally shut down because I have been in front of my TV for most of the 100 hours of speed coverage from Daytona. And for Valentine's Day?? Ordered pizza and watched the Tivo'd Duals...gotta love it!
