I Heart Good Mail*

So I've been a little bit distracted the past few days.

I've forgotten to do some things that I was supposed to do.

Like work.

The King mandates that his mama and I do his bookkeeping each month.

Which reeks.

But if his mama is kind enough to do his dirty work, I'm certainly not saying no.

Because that would not get me any daughter-in-law bonus points. And I crave the daughter-in-law bonus points.

Oh. And I want to help my husband. If I have to.

I spent most of yesterday in a complete and utter panic. I had too much to do. I didn't get the work done.

I was supposed to have the work done by the 10th.

It is now the 12th.

And I haven't started the work.

So I'm gonna spend today sulking. And working. But mostly sulking. I may throw in a little complaining. Perhaps.

I am now through with my pity party. Thank you for coming. There are no party favors. I wish there were.

I've also forgotten to fill out my nephew's school fundraiser thing that is due today.

His school is selling magazine subscriptions this year. (Which are preferred to the nasty frozen braided bread loaves that the other nephew is selling.)

I don't want to make a rash & irresponsible magazine selection. A girl only gets so many subscriptions, you know.

What do you like to read? What is worth my time and money?

I am the current recipient of:

Southern Living (have gotten this for 14 years--can't stop now)
Cottage Living (I love me a cottage. I live in one in my pretend world. The place where I don't work.)
Simple & Delicious (my fave!!)
Better Homes & Gardens (kindly provided by my mother-in-law...which is what the bonus points can do for you)
People (Stop the judging. The Queen Mother provides this one.)

When I open the mailbox and see a little bit of periodical deliciousness waiting for me...

It's big, y'all.

It's an event. Bubble bath. Diet Pepsi with crunchy ice. An event. (Or is that in pretend world?)

I need suggestions. And quick. The order is due today!! And I don't dare stop the working.

*disclaimer: I am so sorry for the whining. Please forgive me. I am happy to have a husband. I am happy to help him. I LIVE to help him. I am grateful for the braided bread. I am thankful to be the recipient of pointless periodicals. I am blooming where I'm planted, etc.

I do NOT recommend Glamore, FYI. I started receiving it about a year ago, and I have NO IDEA why. I certainly didn't sign up for it, I've never paid a dime for it, and no one I know would sign me up for it. It's trash, and that's now exactly where it goes when it comes in the mail. I recently received a "renew your subscription" card from them and I was so happy because that means the current subscription is ending soon. What drives me crazy is I really have no idea why I started receiving it in the first place!
Sorry, but that's the only magazine I receive.
Oh, by the way, I found your blog through a Rocks in My Dryer link. I read through your archives... I LOVE your blog! Hilarious! My favorites are your wedding night story and your post from Oliver following his haircut.

For some reason I get SELF magazine. I think it's because as long as I subscribe, I can at least pretend that I might do some of those toning exercises. I want to subscribe to Taste of Home. And I will once I stop those toning exercises.

By the way, you can whine all you want. What are friends for?

I enjoy "Entertainment Weekly." I love it for many reasons, but the book reviews and Stephen King's (every-few-weeks) column are my favorite reasons.

Every day, I ask my husband if we got any "good mail." His usual response is "no." "Entertainment Weekly" is "good mail." He doesn't understand this. We've not been married for even two years yet. Maybe I'll "learn him" this by our silver wedding anniversary. :)

I highly recommend "Cooking with Paula Deen". It's my favorite magazine.

I am on a "magazine fast" so I will live vicariously through you for a minute. I used to receive SL and BHG. You don't get better than SL. Have you ever read Real Simple? It's a good one. And I agree with Robyn about the Paula Deen magazine. Happy reading!

I like Cottage Living. In fact, I actually have one of those subscription thingys that I never filled out. I think I'll go do that now -- unless of course it's buried under 50 other things I should have handled prior to now --

By the way, there are never party favours at a pity party; this is standard as written in the Feel Sorry For Yourself and Be Happy About It! handbook. Like, duh!

xoxox

I read People and BH&G too. I also get Redbook, which I really, really like, and SELF. And Shape. And Fitness. Which really don't do a bit of good if you don't actually do the things they write about.

Real Simple. Hands down, it's awesome. Unfortunately, it was eliminated as non-essential in the latest round of budget cuts in the house, but I will survive - anything to keep me home with the Fox!

Ooooh, no one has taken my suggestion yet lol I love decorating magazines, so my fav is Domino Magazine. Also I just recently subscribed to a magazine called Organize - http://www.organizemag.com/ I actually copied some of the pictures they had in the Dec issue and used them as gift tags LOL It seems to be a real nice magazine and fairly new to the scene. I just got my first issue last month.

Enjoy!

I'm a magazine junkie. I've tried to cut back, but, they just seem to call my name when I see their covers staring at me. My favorites are: InStyle, Lucky, Country Living, Real Simple, and Woman's Day.

I really like Real Simple, too. I love all magazines, but generally only subscribe to cooking ones. Although since discovering Recipezaar.com, I don't do that anymore either. Sigh. No more shiny new periodicals in the mail for me.

I love Family Circle!! People kinda roll their eyes at me when I say that, but it's my absolute favorite. I always read it cover to cover. There's tons of recipes and PRACTICAL info, not fashion recommendations which include wearing something that looks like a peacock on your head with a irridecent biased cut frock.

I love my Real Simple. Shannon does not. But I do. I also enjoyed Entertainment Weekly until I became utterly disenchanted with celebrity. Because? Get over yourself already. But I do love movies and they keep you up-to-date on the good ones.

Real Simple & BH&G are the best! I can't ever find Real Simple in those fundraisers. Can't you just renew your subscription to something that you already have?

I'm not much help. All we get around here is Farm Journal, Country Woman, and Range. I think my mother-in-law enjoys Reader's Digest.

Oh how I heart good mail too! Love magazines, I'm addicted. Who has time to read books anymore. I'm totally recommending the new Organize magazine. It is awesome, really it is. And I'm not just saying that because I'm addicted to organizing as well and can't see past my blinders. It is awesome!!!

I also would recommend Light and Tasty. It's even better than Simple and Delicious. True!

Good luck getting all your work done today.

I am not much help I am afraid. I don't get any right now, but do pick up Paula Dean on occassion. I also love BH&G as well.

I'm a magazine junkie, partly because I used to get crazy-huge discounts because I was a "journalist."

Right now, we overlap with BH&G and Cottage Living. I also get (and recommend) Martha Stewart Living (the photography alone makes me drool over this magazine), Everyday Food (HIGHLY recommended for great, simple, exciting recipes), Coastal Living (because I used to live by the coast), Midwest Living (great regional magazine, similar in style to Southern Living or Sunset) as well as Good Housekeeping and Ladies Home Journal.

I used to subscribe to EW, Time, Newsweek and a few other journalism journals, but I didn't have enough time to keep up with weeklies.

Obligated to subscribe to Southern Living, after all I do live in Alabama. My husband will tell you I only look at the pictures, which *might* be true. Anyway, I also like to "read" Real Simple. Good luck!

Family Fun magazine! They have so many cute ideas in every issue. I rip the pages I like out as I go through it and keep them in a folder. LOVE IT!

I'm with ya! It totally makes my day if I see a magazine in the mail! Lovvvvvveee them so much - it's like a treat when the peanut goes to sleep to get lost in my new magazine!

Hope we both get good mail today!
Smiles,
Jennifer

I love Redbook and Cooking with Paula Deen-
Southern Lady out of Birmingham is pretty good too-

This just reminds me that I'm not reading the magazines I like. I need to resubscribe. Somehow my subscriptions lapsed. People is a must. Self is a necessary evil. Martha Stewart Living is a reminder of all I'm not doing. And yet I still love them.

Hmmm. I get Good Housekeeping, and I like it. I just had a free trial of Women's Health-like it but will cancel because I don't love it. I also get Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion. I don't think I'll renew after this year even though I love it. I'm no where near crafty and that is all it is about and I not only feel like I'm wasting money, but I feel like a slouch when I see what CUTE and FUN things that artists do. (Oh, and my house is miles from looking like anything remotely close to anything on those pages. Depressing.)

Since I've been reading blogs I've had to cut down on my magazine time. There are only so many hours in a day!

Oh...Real Simple is my fav! I also used to love to get Country, and Taste Of Home. They are from the same company and use no ads. Just beautiful pictures and fun recipes.
